Throwback Thursday. May 17th 2009.
Stewart Roberts directs and conducts his first Pendyrus Gala Concert.
The sell out concert was built around the ‘Sound of Music’ which was to star Connie Fisher. 10 days before the event she pulled out of the concert due to continuing throat problems that eventually led her to have urgent surgery.
By this time the Rhondda Fach gala concert was known throughout the musical theatre and operatic fraternity and a personal telephone call from John Owen Jones, who had just finished a run in the lead role of the London production of Les Mis, and some further help from Tim Rhys Evans brought the west end star together with Katy Treharne, saved the day for what was to be one of the best concerts staged in the Tylorstown Venue. It continues to be the biggest cultural event to be staged in our valley each year.
Our patrons can again look forward to 2018 for another star studded concert,
We have secured the release from Scottish Opera of Sioned Gwen Davies, Sioned represented Wales at this year’s Cardiff Singer of the world. In addition, and for those lovers of musical theatre, she will be accompanied by Luke McCall, Luke is currently understudying the lead role of the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s London production of the ‘Phantom of the Opera’.
